Casa Caguama is one of the original beach homes in Placer located approximately 20 km
south of the cruise ship port of Mahahual. The property consists of two separate residences
snuggled amongst this palm-strewn beachfront lot. The original 2-bedroom, 2 1/2-bath
Beachhouse sits atop a two-meter-tall stone seawall protecting the property against
inclement weather. Large ceramic-tiled, screened porches stretch the width of the
Beachhouse on the first and second floors overlooking the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef a few
hundred meters offshore. A third ceramic-tiled rooftop deck is stacked above the screened
porches for an even better view of the aquamarine Caribbean by day and invites rooftop,
light-pollution-free, star-gazing by night.
The downstairs of the Beachhouse consists of a comfy kitchen defined by a four-person stove-
topped dining peninsula. The adjacent formal dining-living area provides a spacious floor plan
opening onto the first-floor seaside screened porch.
Two spacious master bedroom suites are accessed by a ceramic-tiled staircase off the front
hallway. Each of the bedroom suites extends the depth of the house and backs onto the
second-floor screened porch.
A second building, affectionately referred to as the Roadhouse, is located at the property’s
front gate. A newly-built spacious apartment sits atop a ground-floor workshop/storage
area. The single-bedroom apartment has a new modern kitchen and a large bath with a walk-
in tiled shower. A generous living/dining area spans the front of the Roadhouse, and a third
screened porch looks over the landscaped mid-yard between the Roadhouse and the
Beachhouse.
An entertainment-grade, outdoor concrete patio/kitchen with a concrete roof deck sits
between the Beachhouse and Roadhouse. The outdoor patio/kitchen features a large central
island with a stainless-steel double-bowl sink. A barbeque grille and a large concrete-domed
pizza oven round-out the amenity package.
Casa Caguama is powered by solar power and is equipped with a diesel generator which
keeps the power flowing, rain or shine. However, the electrical wiring is in place to connect
the two buildings to the electrical grid that runs along the beach road for those who favor
hydroelectrically-generated electrical power.
Water is supplied naturally by collecting rainwater from each of the building’s rooftops. Each
house has a 40,000-liter cistern which typicall serves a family of four. Both houses are
connected to the internet via the Starlink satellite system.
Both homes are being sold with all existing furnishings and appliances.

Only several hundred meters offshore, the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef protects the coastline
from possible turbulent seas. The coral reef, often known as the Mayan Barrier Reef, is the
second largest barrier reef in the world – second only to the Great Barrier Reef in Australia –
and extends 965 kilometers (600 miles) from the Yucatan Peninsula to Honduras. Costa Maya
is a diver’s and snorkeler’s paradise and the home to five hundred species of fish and one of
the largest colonies of manatees on the planet.
